Pt. Reyes National Seashore BPL Trip

January 23-24, 2010

Pt. Reyes National Seashore. Me and 20+ other SF Bay BPL members.

This trip was put together by Ken Helwig and Ken Thompson from the BPL group.

I carpooled over with a guy from Modesto, Dave Wage. Got to talking on the way over, missed my exit and ended up having to cross over the Bay Bridge and go through the City to get to our destination. Did something similar on the way home. Need to pay attention.

We still arrived at Pt. Reyes on time and hung out at the parking lot waiting for everyone else to get there. A brief cloudburst passed over while we were waiting, the last measurable rain we would experience until we got back to the parking lot the following day. We hiked in from the Bear Valley trailhead and made our way past Arch Rock on the coast and over to the campsite at Wildcat Camp. I think it was about six miles total. Some folks went straight in to Wildcat.

People trickled in to camp until right up until dusk (some from different trailheads) and we soon had an extensive ultralight tent village set up. All kinds of shelters; from a few tarp-and-bivy set-ups through some tarp tents to more elaborate rigs.

Everyone prepared their own dinner, shared drinks and deserts and hung out. We were fortunate that the rain held off and I think we can prove that the evening was the only wind-free night ever recorded at Pt. Reyes National Seashore.

I met a bunch great people and had a great time...looking forward to more!
